We did warmups at the track then piled into cars and drove to the boys start line, then ran to the girls start line (1 mile) for warmup, then 3 strides right before.
I started out quick cause I wanted to give myself some room, but then I realized I was just behind Ashley Hawks, I didn't feel like I was going too fast and going about the same pace as her so I surged to get right behind her. I think Paul said we were like 5:11 at the mile (!!!) but it honestly didn't feel like I was going that fast! It was also slightly downhill so that definitely helped :) The next mile both Ashley and I backed off a little cause I guess that was faster than she was expecting too! Around a mile and a half I started to tighten up and felt myself faltering, I soon fell off but I didn't let that get me down because I always knew Ashley was going to create a gap on me it was just a matter of when that was! I kept pushing, but I know I slowed down a lot. Angie came up on me around the 3 mile and I tried to go with a little, I think maybe if I had focused right there and latched onto her I could've done better. I sort of just let her go which was bad, but I still tried to pick it up the last mile and kick it in. When I was hurting I tried to focus on my form because Coach has been emphasizing form a lot and how it slows you down a lot if you cross your arms.
I was third! Ashley Tyndall didn't run because of a hamstring issue so if she had I probably would've been fourth. But I think that means I'll be on the traveling team! I was the top freshman, which I think is an accomplishment! Coach said he liked how I didn't let Ashley intimidate me and how I went for it, at first I was worried it was stupid but in hindsight I'm really glad that I did! Overall really happy with it!
Ran back to the track as a cool down! 6 miles. http://m.ustream.tv/recorded/71925102
