Today was the 10k out at Saltaire. on our way there, we saw what looked like a race at sugarhouse park, and why do we do most of our races so far away when there are a lot here? just a thought. Anyway, I did 3 miles warmup. I actually went over my miles for this week. I was thinking about only doing 1 mile, but I wanted to make sure I was warmed up. So we did some drills at the starting line, and then started. Guess what?!!! I actually started on time!!! :) (on the 5k 2 weeks ago I was in the parking lot when they started) So, I was feeling great the first and 2nd mile, but I didn't want to go too fast because I didn't want to crash. I just stayed at the same pace as Abigail, and just tried to keep up with her. At like the 3rd mile, I was getting tired. But that didn't stop me! I just worked to stay with Abigail, and pushed through it. By the 4th mile, I was starting to get a side ache, and I told myself, DON'T YOU DARE GET A SIDE ACHE and I did a technique thing bill taught me a while ago, and it worked and I didn't get one! :) But can I just tell you that drinking water while running is super difficult? Well, it is! Excuse me, drinking Gatorade. I think I splashed some people. :O I got gatorade on my leg the first time. second time I nearly choked. Ug. It is really hard. maybe I should just practice that and become a professional!!! ha! Anyway, fifth mile mark Abigail told me we were gonna do a speed change, and I was like NO! But I didn't want to fall behind, so I pushed really hard to keep up with her. At the very end, Either she sped up even more or I slowed down or both, but I still ended up right behind her!!! I am really glad she was there, or else my time would have been a lot worse. Thank you Abigail!!! I did a 1 1/4 mile cool down with Abigail. :)

You write the longest posts EVER!!! Great job on your race today, especially after such a long week. I don't think I raced a 10k until college, so it's amazing that you are doing one your freshman year in high school. You are improving tons!

:) haha I just write whatever's on my mind!!! and then I realize i should probably write about my run, and it ends up pretty long, and then I just don't want to go back to make it shorter, so i post it. :) Thank you so much!!!

Great job today! What's the technique to not get a side ache?

From sarah on Sun, Feb 12, 2012 at 23:00:12 from 71.35.197.253

haha thanks!!! oh well you take a deep breath in and then blow out really hard...kind of like youre blowing up a balloon or through a straw. usually a side ache is caused by trapped carbon dioxide from shallow breathing. and then concentrate on your breathing and it should go away. and you just gotta run through it.
